The President, on the advice of the Cabinet, may, if satisfied that compliance with a provision of Division 1 within a time or period specified in that Division is or will be difficult or impossible because of an election or for any other reason, give such directions regarding the time or period for compliance with the provision as appear to the President to be appropriate, and the provision has effect accordingly.
